Lunchtime series offers tips for the holidays

MSU Extension can help you get through the upcoming busy holiday season.

The last few months of the year hold the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Michigan State University Extension has an online series of educational presentations to help you navigate this busy time of year. We will cover topics such as mindful eating, budgeting, activities for kids, and homemade preserved gifts.

Join us for these lunchtime sessions with tips to get you through the holidays. The one-hour sessions begin at 12:00 p.m. Eastern time, and are open to anyone. A different topic will be covered during each virtual session.

Once you register, you can choose which sessions you want to attend. Registration is open through November 20, 2024. The sessions will not be recorded.

The sessions are:

Mindfully Eating Treats and Such
October 31, 2024 
The holiday season comes with preparing and eating some of our favorite traditional dishes and delicious desserts and treats. It can also bring up negative emotions like guilt, shame and regret as we make decisions on what and how much to eat of these special foods. This workshop will give you some tools you can use to learn to eat mindfully, whether you are eating an apple or apple pie. You will learn ways to slow down and enjoy any food with a greater appreciation by paying attention to all your senses.

Enjoy Your Holidays on a Budget
November 7, 2024 

Are you worried about the holidays and being able to afford everything on your agenda and wish list? Especially with the rising cost of everything? Join this one-hour webinar for some helpful tips and strategies to be able to enjoy your time with family and friends and not break the bank.

Creative Crafts for Kids 
November 14, 2024 

As winter break approaches, many of us will have time at home with the children in our lives. During this session, learn how you can spend that time making memories through hands-on activities! Together, we will explore creative crafts for kids of all ages that can be used to provide engagement and inspiration, discover new skills, and can be given as holiday gifts!

Preserving Foods for Gifts 
November 21, 2024 

Homemade gifts are very meaningful and can be budget friendly. Learn how to make home-preserved food gifts safely and find the way to your loved one’s heart! Join us to get some ideas for popular home-preserved foods and learn more about how to safely can using safe, research-based recipes. Following recommended practices will help ensure you won’t give a foodborne illness along with your gift.

Additional online events you can register for are Holiday Baking and Preparing for Holiday Stress Using Mindfulness. These events are free, but registration is required.
