AAEA Fellow Melinda Smale on inclusion of women in science

In honor of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, MSU AFRE professor Melinda Smale was interviewed by Crop Trust about the challenges and rewards of being a woman in science.

Dr. Melinda Smale was interviewed by Crop Trust as a part of their International Day of Women and Girls in Science weekly series on inspiring and talented women scientists.  Professor Smale has been a member of the Food Security Group since 2011 and was recently named a fellow by the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA).  She has authored over 100 peer reviewed articles and won multiple awards for her research on genetic diversity, seed systems, and farm productivity.

In the interview Smale shares a glimpse into her history as a scientist, her experiences as both a mentor and mentee, and how she has seen attitudes toward women in science change over her lifetime.
