Hunting is an important component of wildlife management that provides funding for conservation and has deep cultural roots in the United States. Social acceptance of hunting is key in ensuring that associated conservation efforts can continue. The Hunting and Conservation Hybrid Course, offered by Michigan State University Extension and the MSU Dept. of Fisheries & Wildlife, will provide participants with the opportunity to learn about the history, ethics and practice of hunting, the consumptive use of game species, public policy issues, and Michigan wildlife issues. The hybrid course will use an interactive approach that includes practical, in-person experiences related to safe home game processing, archery, and firearm safety, paired with three online webinar sessions.

The Hunting and Conservation program will be a hybrid event consisting of three webinar sessions and two in-person sessions; participants will need to attend all five sessions to complete the program. The three interactive webinar sessions will be held on July 22, 29, and August 4, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. using Zoom, and the in-person sessions will be held on July 27 and August 10, 2025, from 2:30-5 p.m. The two in-person sessions will be held on the campus of Michigan State University and participants will gain hands on experience in firearm and archery safety, animal anatomy, and game processing.
