Stewart receives 2026 Spirit of CANR Award

Rose Stewart, of the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, will receive the 2026 Spirit of CANR Award on May 6 during the CANR Faculty and Staff Awards reception.

The Spirit of CANR Award recognizes a support staff member who embodies the mission and values of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Michigan State University. The award honors individuals who foster a positive image, culture and climate within CANR; promote scholarship, service and outreach; and demonstrate a commitment to access, belonging and positive relationships both on and off campus.

Stewart is an educational program coordinator in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife and has been a member of the CANR community since 2016. Through her work, she has created an engaging and supportive environment that prioritizes student success, professional growth and applied learning.

Colleagues consistently praise Stewart for her mentorship and dedication to students. One nominator noted that her guidance helps students build confidence, develop professional networks and navigate the transition from the classroom to practice, calling her work “the finest example of CANR’s commitment to student success and applied scholarship.”

Stewart is also recognized for her positive approach and strong sense of service. Another nominator shared that she approaches every challenge with optimism, professionalism and an unwavering dedication to serving others, qualities that contribute to a supportive and collaborative departmental culture.

Her passion for student learning, professional development and well-being is evident in her daily work. According to one nominator, “Rose is committed to students, including their learning experiences, professional development and overall well-being, and this is clearly her passion.”

Through her leadership, mentorship and commitment to fostering an inclusive and engaging environment, Stewart exemplifies the values celebrated by the Spirit of CANR Award.
