Ogemaw Ballot Language

Background and Summary

MSU Extension is funded by a unique partnership with federal, state, and local governments in order to successfully meet the needs of Michigan communities. Ogemaw County government has asked its constituents to fund the county portion of the partnership through a millage on the August 4 ballot.

A YES vote means that the average homeowner will pay less than $7 a year in taxes to fund MSU Extension.

A NO vote means that MSU Extension will not receive funding.

Ogemaw Ballot Language

WHEREAS a County-wide Millage is necessary to pay the costs of operating 4-H Youth Programs and Michigan State University Extension Services in the County of Ogemaw to County residents; and

WHEREAS the Board seeks to have the voters of Ogemaw County determine whether they desire to raise funds for the purpose of providing operating funds for 4-H Youth Programs and Michigan State University Extension Services in the County of Ogemaw.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the following question be submitted to a vote of the electorate in the primary election to be held on August 4, 2026:

OGEMAW COUNTY COUNTY-WIDE 4-H YOUTH PROGRAMS AND MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION SERVICES MILLAGE PROPOSAL

Shall the limitation upon the total amount of general ad valorem taxes which may be levied upon all real and personal property for all purposes in any one year under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution be increased in the County of Ogemaw, Michigan to 0.1465 mill (which is equal to $0.1465 per $1000 of taxable value of all such property) for a period of eight years being 2026 through 2033 inclusive, for the purposes of paying costs of operating 4-H Youth Programs and Michigan State University Extension Services in the County of Ogemaw, thereby raising in the first year an estimated $181,513. If approved and levied, a portion of the millage may also be disbursed, in accordance with State law, to the Downtown Development Authorities of the City of West Branch and the Township of West Branch.
