Graduate teaching assistantships are available for a number of Packaging courses. Most often, these involve instructing, supervising, and grading in the laboratory portions of these classes. Appointments may be at either the quarter-time or half-time levels, depending on department needs and student preferences. Benefits include a biweekly stipend, waiver of up to 9 credit hours of tuition each fall or spring semester, health insurance, and waiver of out-of-state tuition (if applicable). Courses typically having assistants include PKG 101, 315, 322, 323, 410, 411, 432, 455,  470, 485, 815, 817 and 825. Teaching Assistantships are generally not available for summer semester.

The application form is available to all eligible Packaging students, with deadlines as follows:

Spring:  March 15 for Fall appointments
     Fall:  October 15 for Spring appointments

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.  International students must meet the requirement of proficiency in spoken English before being assigned and/or offered teaching work. To see the current English requirement options, go to: https://grad.msu.edu/tap/speak.

Decisions about applicant selection are made by the Director of the School of Packaging in consultation with the supervising faculty member for the course. To be considered for positions, students must apply each semester. Preference is given to students who have previous TA experience in the School of Packaging, provided the student has performed well in previous assignments and is making good progress towards their degree. PhD students in Packaging generally have preference over MS students. Students must have the required background for the particular assignment. The application form provides the opportunity to rank TA opportunities in order of preference.
