Greg Witbeck is CANR’s Director of Foundation Relations, dedicated to connecting faculty to non-federal foundation grant opportunities. He provides assistance and recommendations to PIs who are not already familiar (or comfortable) with applying for foundation funding. Greg brings twenty-five years of non-profit Advancement/Development expertise – most of it in academic Foundation Relations work. Prior to joining CANR’s Office of Advancement he spent over fifteen years working with basic science and clinical faculty at Michigan Medicine.

Greg offers:

Individual or research team consultation to learn about specific research or operational projects in need of funding and making targeted recommendations for well-aligned foundations

Assistance to early- and mid-career faculty seeking support for proof-of-concept funding grants to improve their competitiveness for federal grants

Analysis and summary of foundations’ present and past grantmaking patterns, using a variety of databases and resources to identify grantmaking budgets, key funding priorities and patterns to their philanthropy

Orientation for faculty to MSU’s Foundation Relations resources including new tools to search for open grant RFPs and set up requests for automated weekly opportunity updates based on keywords of interest
