Jacalenne Christian
Jacalenne is a passionate Community Nutrition Instructor in wayne county where she has dedicated nearly a decade to improving food sustainability and nutrition education. Born and raised in Southwest Detroit, she focuses on empowering underserved populations, particularly within her own Hispanic community, Detroit and the immediate surrounding areas.
In her role, Jacalenne teaches engaging nutrition classes that equip individuals with practical skills to make healthier food choices. She has spearheaded the establishment of a few community gardens, fostering a love for gardening while promoting access to fresh produce. Her commitment to community engagement extends to presenting at conferences and coaching organizations on creating policy, systems, and environmental changes that support healthier communities.
With a diverse background that includes experience in the culinary world and energy sustainability with DTE Energy, Jacalenne brings a holistic approach to community nutrition, emphasizing the connections between food, environment, and health. She is proud to have been recognized as a top performer within her team, receiving accolades for her contributions to the bi-lingual work team, highlighting her commitment to inclusivity and effective communication.
As a certified Master Gardener since 2020, Jacalenne is dedicated to bridging the gap of where our food comes from for her participants, gardening and food preservation, believing in the power of education to foster food security and self-sufficiency among community members.
Outside of work, she enjoys exploring Michigan's natural beauty, reading, cooking, and traveling, all while creating lasting memories with her husband and young daughter. Through her efforts, Jacalenne embodies a dedication to community well-being and sustainable living.
