Jonathan LaPorte
Jon LaPorte is a Farm Business Management Educator with Michigan State University Extension based in Cass County, Michigan. His main area of focus is guiding farmers on how better understanding of their farm business can lead to improved decision-making. This focus includes an emphasis on cost of production, financial analysis, and risk management.
Prior to joining MSU Extension, Jon worked for USDA as a Farm Loan Officer and later as a Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) at a farm retail cooperative. He uses this experience to provide leadership and programming expertise in production economics based education.
Jon also coordinates the DEMaND series that focuses on assisting new farm managers in understanding and applying financial and business strategies.
In July of 2024, Jon was selected to serve a two-year term on the USDA Advisory Committee on Beginning Farmers and Ranchers, representing higher education institutions.
