  • Youth and teen Mental Health First Aid
  • Teens as Teachers
  • Health Rocks!

Kea serves as the principal investigator for multiple grants focused on educating youth and families to strengthen balanced physical and mental health, mindfulness, substance use prevention, and overall wellness. This includes the STOP grant, which supports Youth and teen Mental Health First Aid courses delivered to high schools and youth serving organizations statewide. Kea also supports the Teens as Teachers initiative, which recruits and trains teenagers to deliver 4-H healthy living programs to younger youth, with an emphasis on physical activity, substance use prevention and mindfulness. Through this program, teens build skills in public speaking, lesson and event planning, teamwork and character development. In addition, Kea also supports the Health Rocks! program, which promotes life skill development to help youth make healthy decisions and avoid substance use, including vaping.

Kea is a certified Youth and teen Mental Health First Aid Instructor and a Michigan ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Initiative Community Champion. She is dedicated to positive youth development through a trauma informed approach that centers on belonging, resilience and empowerment. Kea holds a Bachelor of Science in Family and Community Services from Michigan State University and a Master of Arts in Family Counseling from Spring Arbor University.
