Monique joined Tollgate in 2024 as the Sustainable Agriculture Program Instructor. Monique manages the vegetable fields onsite, providing fresh grown produce to the local community. Monique also hosts educational classes and workshops in various topics related to vegetable gardening and production.

Monique graduated from Michigan State University with a major in environmental studies and sustainability. She also obtained minors in sustainable agriculture and food systems and conservation and environmental law enforcement. Her expertise encompasses a wide range of topics within sustainable agriculture, including plant identification, weed control, and agricultural research.

Her practical experience in sustainable agriculture is extensive. For nine years, she conducted research for conventional and organic weed control in fruit and vegetable systems through the Michigan State University (MSU) Department of Horticulture. This involved traveling to MSU research stations and growers' fields across the lower peninsula to work on over 25 different crops. She employed a variety of mechanical tools, herbicides, and cover crops to combat weeds. Additionally, she researched newly discovered Michigan weeds and weeds suspected of developing resistance to specific herbicides.
