Introduction to Structured Decision Making and Adaptive Management
More and more, resource management agencies are turning to Structured Decision Making (SDM) as a tool to increase the transparency and rigor of their public policy process. This course introduces students to the history, philosophy and methods of SDM, facilitates discussion of shared experiences with SDM, and presents practical tools and advice for making SDM work. We also explain the principles behind Adaptive Management (AM), which is a special case of SDM where reducing uncertainty is a key management objective. The course is aimed at early career management agency staff and graduate students interested in pursuing a career in resource management.
