Computer and Electronics

Some potential points to spur discussion:

  • A higher share of college educated residents is associated with larger establishments in computer and electronic product.
  • Higher property taxes are associated with more computer and electronic product manufacturer establishments, but do not significantly influence overall industry employment levels. This is likely due to areas with higher property taxes attracting branch establishments through higher quality public services, including transportation infrastructure and a well-qualified labor-force
  • Computer and electronic product manufacturing seems to have a positive association with greater access to the internet, perhaps due to greater productivity, lower costs, or better market access.
  • Manufacturing industries seem to benefit from agglomeration, that is, locating in areas with higher shares of employment in manufacturing.
