This toolkit helps community champions support thoughtful, lasting improvements that build on local strengths and capacity. Based on the MSU Extension Six-Step Community Change Model, it includes guides and worksheets to help you identify shared challenges, build a team, use local strengths and trusted resources, take action and sustain progress over time.

Whether you are a parent, educator, childcare provider, resident, volunteer or local leader, you can help strengthen your community. The toolkit supports small, realistic changes that save time, reduce the need for retraining and support long-term success. It can also help strengthen existing efforts, meet funding or quality requirements and improve community wellbeing.

Because the process is flexible, you can start where you are, build on what works and choose actions that fit your capacity. Even small steps can lead to lasting change.

See MSU Extension’s Community Change Hub for curated resources and topic-specific guidance.
