The following organizations may provide information in the 4-H shooting sports project area. The information is for educational purposes only. Reference to commercial products or trade names does not imply endorsement by MSU Extension or bias against those not mentioned.
- Amateur Trapshooting Association
Serving as the governing body for the sport of American style trapshooting, the ATA promotes and governs the sport throughout the world.
- American Legion Junior Shooting Sports Program
Get involved in a sport where your talent can provide scholarships for future educational aspirations.
- Civilian Marksmanship Program
Offers information about riflery camps, competitions, club information and resources.
- Michigan Hunter Education Program
Hunter education in Michigan has taught thousands of people safe hunting techniques, firearm handling and hunter ethics. Completing a hunter safety course is required if you were born after January 1, 1960, and you want to purchase any Michigan hunting license or if you are planning an out-of-state hunting trip.
- Michigan Youth Hunter Education Challenge: Promoting Michigan's Outdoor Heritage
This program is an outdoor skills and safety training program for young hunters who have graduated from hunter safety training at the state or provincial level. It is designed for young people who desire to enhance their ethics, safety skills, talents, techniques and knowledge of hunting and shooting. Participants can enjoy outdoor activities and the ultimate program in mastering the hunting and shooting skills in archery, wildlife identification, shotgun, hunter safety, muzzleloading, orienteering, rifle, and safety and legal issues.
- National 4-H Shooting Sports
Learn about marksmanship, the safe and responsible use of firearms, the principles of hunting and archery, and much more. The activities of the program and the support of caring adult leaders provide young people with opportunities to develop life skills, self-worth and conservation ethics.
- National Shooting Sports Foundation
NSSF is the trade association for the firearms industry. Learn about NSSF programs and services, firearms industry issues and opportunities to hunt and shoot. As it says under the organization's logo, the National Shooting Sports Foundation is "always shooting for more" so that today's sports enthusiasts and those of future generations will be able to enjoy the great pastimes of hunting and shooting, as well as the fine equipment that enhances those experiences.
- National Skeet Shooting Association and National Shooting Clays Association

- National Target Company
Supplier of rifle, pistol and many more targets for practicing needs.
- National Wild Turkey Federation (JAKES) and Michigan Wild Turkey Federation
The National Wild Turkey Federation is the leader in upland wildlife habitat conservation in North America. The NWTF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving the wild turkey and preserving the hunting heritage. JAKES (R) events teach youth about the outdoors, hunting and conservation through hands-on activities, education, camaraderie and family fun. (JAKES stands for Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship.) Test your skills and knowledge in both indoor and outdoor learning stations including but not limited to sporting clays, shotgun patterning, black powder shooting, camping, hunting safety, archery, conservation and habitat work, turkey calling, primitive skills, fishing, and much more. The Michigan site includes information on MWTF chapters, events, workshops, contests and scholarships.
- USA Shooting: National Governing Body for Olympic Shooting Sports
Learn about the many youth programs available on the national and regional level. USAS implements and manages development programs and sanctions events at the local, state, regional and national levels. Its mission is to prepare American athletes to win Olympic and Paralympic medals, promote the shooting sports throughout the United States and govern the conduct of international shooting in the country.
