  • Height: 40’ - 50’
  • Spread: 30’ - 50’
  • Site characteristics: Full sun to partial shade; medium moisture, well-drained soils
  • Zone: 4 - 7
  • Wet/dry: Can tolerate some drought
  • Native range: Southeast Europe and Southwest Asia
  • pH: 5.0 - 8.0
  • Other: Tolerates urban conditions, heat, pollution, dry soils and variable pH levels
  • Shape: Pyramidal
  • Foliage: Semi-glossy, bright green leaves
  • Other: Edible nuts appear in clusters of three to six with spiny and hairy involucre husks covering and extending beyond each nut.
  • Additional: May be difficult to obtain
  • Pests: Eastern filbert blight
