Have you heard of ... have you heard of ... Have you heard of .. have you heard of 4-H ambassadors? Serving as a 4-H ambassador is a leadership and skill-building opportunity for youth that also benefits 4-H programs. 4-H ambassadors are responsible for representing and promoting 4-H and assisting with county-wide or statewide 4-H activities. A 4-H Ambassador is a motivated individual who seeks to become a leader, mentor, and teacher, inspiring positive change in their community. 4-H ambassadors can serve locally by promoting 4-H programs to new audiences at the county level. This might look like staffing an informational table at a community outreach event or recording an interview for a local radio station. Statewide, project ambassadors help us plan programs and events, assist with social media takeovers, and provide a youth voice in our planning processes. There are several existing ambassador teams in Michigan 4-H at the state level, ranging from healthy living to shooting sports and more. The Michigan 4-H State Youth Leadership Council is also, at it's core, an ambassador program for youth involved in leadership projects. Since June, a team of staff have been meeting to improve ambassador programs across the state to learn from each other, share the best practices, and develop resources to share with staff and volunteers who might be interested in establishing an ambassador program Staff and volunteers can find these resources on our new website. This summer, staff are offering an overnight Ambassador training program for youth serving in these roles to come together and develop some basic ambassador skills We'll cover topics like public speaking, leveraging social media, goal-setting, professionalism and more. This event is open to current ambassadors as well as youth that are interested in these topics and want to learn more about serving on an existing team or creating a new team locally. Serving as an ambassador provides youth with opportunities to build self-confidence, communication and leadership skills. In addition, youth can meet new friends, make new connections, share their voice, and enhance their portfolio and resume. Why do I serve in my role as an ambassador? In being an ambasador, I feel I spend just as much time learning as I have informing others. I've gotten to know an encouraging team of mentors and youth serving statewide. The most important thing I've been given in my role is a voice for myself and 4-H youth. I like to network with people both businesses and around the community. Also it builds my communication skills. Also, I like to meet new people and friends around the state through 4-H, that has definitely impacted my life. I serve as a 4-H ambassador because I enjoy listening to people in my community, and talking with them and working through problems that are not only local, but statewide. I serve in this role because it builds character, friendship, and real-world experience. I definitely recommend you to join an ambassador program so you can share and learn through each other.
