Michigan State University AgBioResearch is part of a nationwide network of agricultural experiment stations and is a recipient of capacity program funding provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture – National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA). Capacity fund grants provide funding to conduct research and extension activities at land-grant institutions.
AgBioResearch uses federal capacity funds (Hatch, Hatch-Multistate, McIntire-Stennis and Animal Health) to support faculty and personnel salaries, travel, supplies and equipment enhancing research programs. Faculty paid by an AgBioResearch appointment are required to submit an appropriate federal project that identifies a broad overview of planned research that ties to one of the critical issues identified by AgBioResearch and contributes to the broad research mission of USDA-NIFA.
