About BHEARD
The Borlaug Higher Education for Agricultural Research and Development (BHEARD) Program supported the long-term training of agricultural researchers at the master’s and doctoral levels, linking scientific and higher education communities in USAID Feed the Future priority countries and the United States. BHEARD scholarships supported individuals' coursework at U.S. and regional universities and provided funding for research in their home countries.
Additionally, BHEARD supported institutions for higher education and other agricultural research organizations in seven USAID Feed the Future countries to develop, test and evaluate new models of small-scale institutional capacity development. BHEARD prioritized institutional strengthening recognizing that sustainable solutions and novel research require strong institutions from which individuals are empowered to innovate.
