- Michele Remer, PhD student, has been selected for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowships Program (GRFP), which provides three-year annual stipend of $37,000. She has also received two other fellowships, Vera M. Wallach Fellowship Fund for Graduate Students and John Peters and Marietta Peters Fisheries and Wildlife Fellowship.

- Jianguo “Jack” Liu, Rachel Carson Chair and Director, has been named “Highly Cited Researcher” the third time in 2022 by Clarivate Analytics, following the years of 2021 and 2018. Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Highly Cited Researchers™ are 1 in 1,000.
- William Taylor, University Distinguished Professor in Global Fisheries Systems, received the Pistic Award from Michigan Charter Boat Association.
- Jianguo “Jack” Liu, Rachel Carson Chair and Director, has been elected to the prestigious Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters, a new honor he received while attending ceremonies to receive the Gunnerus Award in Sustainability Science.
- Natalia Portales, undergraduate researcher, named Lyman Briggs College Research Fellow. She will work on National Science Foundation-funded project in the Arctic.
- Edith Gondwe, PhD student, receives the prestigious international fellowship from the American Association of University Women.
- Jianguo “Jack” Liu, Rachel Carson Chair and Director, has been honored with the Eminent Ecologist Award, which is the highest honor for ecological contributions by the Ecology Society of America (ESA) for building interdisciplinary bridges in sustainability science that has strengthened research and sparked significant impact on global conservation efforts.
- CSIS contributions recognized in MSU’s top global impact in sustainable development rank. CSIS researchers, led by Jianguo “Jack” Liu, have been partnering with international scholars to uncover holistic innovative ways to evaluate SDG progress, including a cover-story paper in Nature and a paper in Nature Sustainability in 2020, which are cited as key efforts contributing to MSU's performance in Times Higher Education 2022 Impact Rankings.

- PhD students Andrew Carlson, Betsy Riley and So-Jung Youn have been accepted to the Great Lakes Leadership Academy’s Emerging Leader Program, designed for potential and current leaders seeking continuing professional development, focused on developing individual and organizational leadership skills, and applying those skills in a collaborative fashion to the common issues of diverse communities.
- PhD students Andrew Carlson and Betsy Riley have been awarded the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation and Environmental Leadership Fellowship. The award is to provide an opportunity for graduate or professional students to achieve a level of professional and personal growth that will prepare them for leadership roles in natural resource and conservation based organizations and agencies.

Other CSIS members joining Liu in writing the article was Vanessa Hull, Thomas Dietz, Shuxin Li, William McConnell and Emilio Moran.

- William Taylor, University Distinguished Professor, has been honored with the Mentoring for Professional Diversity in Fisheries Award by the American Fisheries Society (AFS). He also won the award in 1995 – and is the only person to receive the award twice.
- Vanessa Hull, doctoral candidate has been awarded the NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship.
- Abigail Lynch, a University Distinguished Fellow, will travel to Australia to study fisheries management in the context of climate change thanks to the William W. and Evelyn M. Taylor Endowed Fellowship for International Engagement in Coupled Human and Natural Systems.
- Mao-Ning Tuanmu‘s presentation about the giant panda’s potential ability to survive climate change has earned him an Award for Best Student Presentation from the U.S. Regional Association of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (US-IALE).
