Usage
Use Person when you’re adding an individual to the website. This entry contains ways for users to contact the Person and learn more about that individual, via a biography or profile. This may also contain a photo of the individual.
Fields
Image
Upload an image of the person here. It should be a photo where the person is the most prominent in the photo. Headshots and official portraits are preferred.
First Name
This is where the person’s first or preferred name goes.
Middle Name
This is where the person’s middle name goes. It may also store maiden or previous names. This name shows up in the person’s profile.
Last Name
This is where the person’s last or family name is entered. If the person’s last name is hyphenated, both names, with a hyphen goes here.
Honorific Suffix
This is where the person’s suffix or academic title goes. Common suffixes include PhD, MA, MBA, MS. Please use MSU style when using these titles.
Alternate Name
This is where the any alternate name for the person, first or last goes. If it is not the same as the person’s first name, includes common abbreviations, nicknames and common misspellings. This field does NOT show up in the person’s profile. It is used for search purposes only.
Job Title
This is the official or functional title of the person. It does not include areas of expertise.
Address
This is intended for the person’s work street address or work location. This will display in addition to place information, be sure not to repeat the information in place. Be sure to check that the person’s place relationship is defined (on a separate tab).
This is where the person’s primary work email address goes.
MSU NetID
For MSU employees, enter their NetID (the portion of their email address before the @ symbol) here.
Fax Number
This is where the person’s office fax number goes.
Telephone
This is where the person’s office or primary telephone number goes.
Cell Phone
This is where the person’s cell phone number goes, if the person wants it displayed.
Organization
This is the person’s organization. It should be specific. This will display in addition to organization information, be sure to not to repeat the information in organization. Check that the person’s ‘works for’ organization relationship is defined.
Content
This is where the narrative of the person’s biography goes.
Relationships
Work-Location
This is the geographic place or places where the person physically works. It is possible for someone to have more than one work location. This location could be displayed in the person’s profile. If more specific, or locations that are not in the system, use the address field to enter it manually.
Series-Person
This is any group of people with which the person is affiliated, for example department chairs would be pulled through a person-series. This will be a very limited use relationship.
Point-OfContact
This will be used mainly by users who submit events. This is where the list of all the events for which a person is the point of contact will appear.
Member-Of
This is any organization that the person is a member of -- for example, committees, MSU Extension institutes, etc. It is possible to have more than one ‘member of’. This could be displayed in the person’s profile. If more specific, or organizations that aren’t in the system, use the organization field to enter manually.
Dataset-Person
This is any topic or other grouping of information with which the person is affiliated. This could be displayed in the person’s profile. It is possible to be affiliated with more than one dataset.
Works-For
This is the organization for which the person works. It is possible to have more than one ‘works for’. This could be displayed in the person’s profile. If more specific, or organizations that aren’t in the system, use the organization field to enter manually.
Instructor-Course
This will be used mainly by users who submit courses. This is where the list of all the courses for which the person is the instructor will appear.
Featured-Person
This will be used mainly by users who submit articles. This is where the list of all articles a person has been featured in will appear.
Author-DigitalDocument
This will be used mainly by users who submit documents. This is where the list of all the events for which a person is affiliated.
Author-Article
This will be used mainly by users who submit articles. This is where the list of all the articles a person has written will appear.
