School of Packaging Seminar: Dr. Jonghun (Jay) Park
April 23, 2026 3:00PM - 4:00PM
School of Packaging Room 120
Abstract: Sustainable packaging strategies often prioritize packaging materials, yet overlooking the full life cycle can increase product damage and overall environmental burdens. This presentation examines the packaging–product waste trade-off in sustainable packaging design across the entire life cycle. By integrating distribution, ergonomics, user behavior, and life cycle assessment (LCA), designers evaluate how packaging changes influence both packaging impacts and product loss. Decisions across design, distribution, handling, use, and end-of-life stages affect total system performance. This presentation emphasizes a holistic approach to identifying packaging solutions that minimize overall environmental impacts while maintaining adequate product protection.
