Tuition & Financial Aid
Tuition Rates
The cost of MSU courses in all IAT certificate programs is based on the MSU per credit tuition rate. All IAT students regardless of their residency status will pay the prevailing freshman undergraduate per credit rate. These rates can be found on the MSU tuition and fees webpage. IAT students are not included in the block tuition program for undergraduate programs at MSU. A $250 special program fee only applies to the Dairy Management program and Livestock Industries program.
The Interim MSU Provost has approved the following to be implemented Fall 2024: all students enrolled in the Institute of Agricultural Technology, a two-year certificate program, pay prevailing freshman undergraduate per credit rate, regardless of residency and academic level. The flat-rate tuition program does not apply to them.
Financial Aid
Financial aid starts with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
-
-
- East Lansing students will have their financial aid process by the MSU Office of Financial Aid. Students enrolling in East Lansing should list MSU as their top choice on the FAFSA.
- Off-campus students enrolled in an IAT program at a community college partner location will have their financial aid processed by that community college's financial aid office. These students should list the community college as their top choice on the FAFSA. The program coordinator at the community college will report the number of MSU credits to the schools financial aid office to be counted toward enrollment status. Students will receive a refund of any financial aid left over after paying the community college tuition bill. This refund should then be used to pay the MSU tuition bill. The community colleges do not send financial aid money directly to MSU for the student's bill.

The Michigan Student Aid Office is a great resource for information on financial aid and State aid programs. Visit their website for information on the FAFSA form, financial aid webinars, and related student aid opportunities.
Scholarships
Information about different scholarship opportunities for all IAT students is available on the Student Services web page.
Calculating the Cost of Attendance
Cost of attendance (COA) is a term used to help students understand a college's total estimated expenses for one year and is used to determine each student's eligibility for financial aid. COA includes tuition & fees, room & board, books & supplies, and estimates for personal and miscellaneous expenses. Students are only billed for tuition & fees and room & board (if living on a campus). The other items in the COA are there to help with budgeting and planning.
When using the MSU tuition and fees calculator, make the following selections:
- In-state residency
- Freshman level
- College of Agriculture and Natural Resources
- animal science major IF in Dairy Management or Livestock Industries
- Check AgTech student box
- Enter number of credits enrolled

-
- East Lansing programs - MSU tuition and fees calculators and sample budgets.
- Off-campus programs - Use the MSU tuition and fees calculator to determine the estimated cost of MSU courses and then use the community college's calculator to determine the estimated cost of their courses. Add the two amounts together for a total estimated cost of tuition and fees.
