Research
KBS LTAR research is stakeholder driven, in that scientists work closely with stakeholders to define and update research goals and direction. Core areas of research within the KBS LTAR include:
- Increased productivity, including yields and profitability;
- Positive environmental outcomes, including those related to soil health, climate change, and biodiversity; and
- Rural prosperity, including farm and community well-being.
The signature LTAR experiment at KBS is the Croplands Common Experiment (CCE), which is designed to develop and evaluate future production systems that better promote the sustainable intensification of cropland agriculture. Additional short and long-term experiments complement the CCE to test additional hypotheses. In the future, KBS LTAR expects to host on-farm experiments.
