Stuby was elected to the Michigan 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees shortly after retiring as regional director of Michigan State University Extension’s Southwest Region in 2009. She continued her trustee service until the fall of 2023, holding many leadership roles including past president (2020-2022), president (2018-2020), vice president (2016-2018), Executive Committee member (2010-2023) and chair of both the Personnel Committee (2016-2023) and the Board Development Committee (2010-2016).
Stuby’s board presidency was during several critical chapters of Michigan 4-H Foundation history. She provided invaluable leadership to establish a formal Memorandum of Understanding between the 4-H Foundation and MSU. Additionally, she was instrumental in developing a new strategic plan for the Michigan 4-H Foundation, implementing a new staffing structure for the foundation, and navigating the closing of the foundation’s conference center, Kettunen Center, during the pandemic.
In 2014, Sally and her husband Dale joined nine other couples as part of the 4-H Leadership 10. (The Leadership 10 was a group of 10 couples who served as the face of the 4-H Foundation capital campaign by sharing their compelling 4-H stories and support of Michigan 4-H.) In 2018, they were honored with the prestigious Michigan 4-H Citation Award, the highest recognition bestowed by Michigan 4-H Youth Development. Sally also received the 2024 MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Distinguished Service Award for her continued dedication and service to 4-H, Extension, the college and Michigan’s agriculture industry.
