Champaign, IL—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Robert J. Tempelman as the 2017 recipient of the J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding. The award will be presented on Monday, June 26, 2017, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The J. L. Lush Award was created to recognize outstanding research in animal breeding. The winner must have done research work published in the 10 years immediately preceding the year of recognition, performed research in any area of animal breeding and genetics that had or has the potential for improvement of dairy cattle, and have been a member of ADSA for at least five years.
The recipient of the J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding is Robert (Rob) J. Tempelman, professor of animal science at Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing. He is also adjunct professor within the Department of Statistics and Probability at MSU and has served as director of the MSU Agricultural College’s Statistical Consulting Center throughout the past couple decades. Tempelman personifies the most desired characteristics in a leading scientist—an inquiring mind, high productivity, and devotion to his profession—and is a motivating mentor for others. Tempelman has published more than 100 refereed papers in scientific journals; about 20% of these papers were published in the Journal of Dairy Science®. Tempelman is a most worthy recipient for the J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding.
