Teaching

Coordinates the Undergraduate Teaching office in the Department of Animal Science and teaches ANS 110 Introduction to Animal Agriculture. Also teaches an array of equine courses, including ANS 242 Introduction to Horse Management and ANS 225 Horse Behavior and Welfare.

Extension

Karen Waite is an equine Extension specialist at Michigan State University and teaches and advises equine students in the MSU Department of Animal Science.  In her role with Michigan State University Extension, Karen coordinates the Michigan 4-H Horse Judges List and Michigan 4-H Horse and Pony Project Show Rules and Regulations.  Her teaching responsibilities include ANS 110 Introductory Animal Science and the associated laboratory, ANS 11L.  Waite also teaches several equine courses including ANS 242 Introductory Horse Management, ANS 225 Horse Behavior and Welfare, ANS 200D Introductory Horse Judging, and ANS 300D Advanced Horse Judging. She coaches the MSU Horse Judging Team and is faculty advisor to the MSU Equestrian Teams and Horsemen’s Association.  Further, Karen is the president of the American Youth Horse Council, past president of the Michigan Quarter Horse Association, and is a carded judge with Michigan 4-H and POAC. Karen has Bachelor’s Degrees in Biology and Education as well as Animal Science, and a Master’s Degree in Animal Science with a nutrition emphasis. Waite also holds a Doctoral degree in Sports Psychology with an emphasis on equestrian sport and activity.
