Paul Nieratko has taught design studios and classes in Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, since January 1986. He served as academic adviser to students in Urban Planning and Geography from September 1988–August 1993, and served as academic adviser in Landscape Architecture from September 1988–August 2008. Nieratko is a full-time Instructor of the SPDC LA Design Studios. His teaching and academic interests are in Golf Course Architecture and Golf Course Construction, Urban Design and Urban Open Space Systems, Post Industrial Design and Reclamation Design, Fundamentals of Design, Art in the Landscape/the Landscape as Art, and the Poetics of Landscape. Nieratko was named the 2012–2013 CANR Howard and Lili Anne Camden Teacher/Scholar, and was voted the Landscape Architecture Faculty of the Year by the LA Students for 2011–2012. He serves on the National Board of Directors of Sigma Lambda Alpha, the National Academic Honorary for Landscape Architecture, and he is Secretary and Adviser to the MSU Gamma Chapter of Sigma Lambda Alpha. Nieratko is the faculty adviser to the MSU Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, “the LAClub.” He received his BS in Physical Geography from the University of Oregon in 1981, and his Master in Urban Planning from MSU in 1985.
