Wade Syers
Wade Syers, DSocSci is a statewide Michigan State University Extension Food Safety Specialist. Additionally, he serves as adjunct faculty for Michigan State University’s Institute of Agricultural Technology. His current research interests include foodborne illness prevention in susceptible populations, culturally relevant and responsive home food preservation, food storage, food safety, emergency preparedness, and food defense.
Dr. Syers' experience spans a variety of settings from quality control and assurance in food manufacturing facilities, to laboratory work in commercial laboratories and a major research university. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Grand Valley State University, a Master of Science degree in Food Safety from Michigan State University, and a Doctor of Social Science degree in Prevention Science from Wilmington University.
