Background:

Xiang Yu is a doctoral student at the Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability under the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. He is pursuing his research interest in metacoupled human and natural systems under the supervision of Dr. Jianguo "Jack" Liu. Xiang received a master’s degree from Northwest A&F University in China. His research focused on the characteristics of grain production in China based on comparative advantage theory. The research results shows that although China has achieved tremendous achievements in improving grain yields, it faces some problems including mismatch of water and cultivated land resources, agricultural non-point source pollution and low water use efficiency, which arouse his interest in agricultural sustainability. At MSU, he will continue to study agricultural production. His research will focus on the impact mechanism of agricultural sustainability based on the metacoupling framework. Xiang hopes that his results can provide insight for ensuring food security and agricultural sustainability in China.
