It begins with an explanation of the need for global food safety governance, illustrated by international food safety scandals. Next, an overview of the international bodies, the World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the Codex Alimentarius Commission, is provided along with their essential role in the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements. Finally, the chapter closes with observations about the need today and in the future.
