Enhancing profitability of spring crops
February 5, 2021
MSU Professor Emeritus Royal Heins discusses how to reduce input costs in the commercial production of annual bedding plants, especially for larger containers that typically have more than one liner. Emphasis is on direct stick propagation into the final container, which reduces costs by eliminating the cost of producing and transplanting a similar number of liners. This strategy also shifts labor to earlier in the season, with the potential to reduce overtime labor during traditional peak weeks. Delivered at the Michigan Greenhouse Growers Expo in December, 2020.
