Animal Nutrition

Researchers with the Michigan State University Dairy Lipids Nutrition Program conduct research and outreach related to the digestion and metabolism of fatty acids in the dairy cow. Their projects primarily emphasize inputs - how feedstuffs consumed by the dairy cow contribute to her individual health and well-being and affect her ability to maximize her production potential.

Researchers with the Dairy Lipids Nutrition Program focus their investigative work on the following dairy (bovine) animal nutrition topics:

  • Biohydrogenation
  • Fat supplementation opportunities and challenges
  • Fatty acid concentration and profile of feeds
  • Milk fat depression
  • Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids
