Non-Credit Courses
The Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition is offering non-credit course options for those that seek additional certifications or additional skill sets.
Current Non-Credit Course Offerings
MSU's Better Process Control School (BPCS)
MSU's Self-Paced Online Better Process Control School. Operators producing acidified foods, low-acid canned foods, or aseptically processed and packaged foods, must be under the supervision of a person who has attended and passed a course approved by the Commissioner (21 CFR Parts 113.10 and 114.10). This online course meets all the FDA and USDA requirements for supervisors of these foods. Click here for more information.
MSU’s Mathematical Modeling and Parameter Estimation Certificate Course - COMING SOON
This is a self-paced course designed for engineering graduate students, engineers and scientists working in industry, research institutes, or government. All teaching, assignments, and final projects are done using MATLAB. Participants will learn how to use MATLAB for a variety of numerical techniques for the forward and the inverse problem. The course focuses on estimation of parameters in nonlinear mathematical models with real data.
Dr. Dolan shares his template MATLAB codes for inverse problems so that participants will learn how to estimate parameters for models in a wide variety of engineering applications. The final project teaches the participant how to prepare and present a conference talk on parameter estimation. Every concept is first taught with theory, and then by hands-on application in MATLAB.
Prerequisites: Calculus and differential equations, basic statistics. Knowledge of MATLAB is not necessary. MATLAB basics will be taught, and links to MATLAB onramp videos will be given.
MSU programs and activities are not restricted based on race, sex, ethnicity, national origin, or other protected identities. The non-credit course offerings are open to all without restriction or preference.
