$937.25 per credit x 30 credit hours = $28,117.50. This estimate is based on rates for the 2025-2026 academic year. Budget for a tuition rate increase of 3-5% annually.
2025-2026 Tuition Rates
Graduate student tuition for the 2025-2026 academic year (fall 2025, spring 2026, summer 2026):
- Michigan residents: $937.25/credit-hour x 3 = $2,811.75/course.
- Non-Michigan and international residents: $1,773.75/credit-hour x 3 = $5,321.25/course.
Note that all MSFRA courses are three credit-hours.
The MSU Board of Trustees announces tuition updates in late June of each year.

Other Fees
- A graduate student fee of $37.00/semester for part-time students (4 credits or less/semester) or $75.00/semester for full-time students will be applied.
- Student-voted fees of $17.00/semester will be applied. Students may request a waiver. Ask your advisor for details at iflr@msu.edu.
- Our online students are not charged MSU’s recreational and wellness center fee.
Health Insurance Waiver or Exemption for International Students
MSU requires international students to carry health insurance while studying in the US. MSU online students can request an exemption to the health insurance requirement by following the instructions at this link:

If you are an international student located in the US, you may be eligible to request a waiver (rather than an exemption) of the MSU health insurance requirement. Information for the waiver can also be found at the link listed above.
