Are you a peach grower, or wondering what average costs are for Michigan growers? Michigan State University Extension recently held a webinar to review the Michigan Peach Cost of Production report, Extension Bulletin E3537. A recording of that webinar is now available on the MSU Extension website.
The video begins by providing an overview of the main results of the study. Then, we review the main establishment and production costs found for Michigan orchards. Starting at 8 minutes and 18 seconds, we look at how harvest costs were calculated. At 20 minutes and 10 seconds, we illustrate breakdowns by cost category. We also identify breakeven prices and per bushel costs for different yields.
The video (and the report) also provides information for fresh peach (farm-packed and packer-packed) and processor peach production.
