MSU researcher creates database of infant formula as part of study
BAE Assistant Professor Dr. Medina-Meza publishes study on infant formula
BAE Assistant professor Dr. Ilce Medina-Meza recently published findings that analized infant formula.
Infant formula is the primary or sole nutritional source during the first six months of life for approximatly two-thirds of U.S. infants. In this study, thirty commercial IFs were analyzed in their oxidative and non-oxidative lipid profiles. The statistical analysis allowed a re-classification of infant formula based on their metabolomic fingerprint, resulting in three groups assigned with low-to-high oxidative status. Dietary intake of colesterol was modeled as well during the first year of life. The database provided in the study will be instumental for scientists interested in infant nutrition, to establish bases for epidemiological studies aimed to find connections between nutrition and diet-associated diseases, such as sitosterolemia.
