Biography

Professor M. Reza Alizadeh studies water and climate using advanced computation and Earth observation to address risks affecting communities and ecosystems. His work spans climatology, hydrology, remote sensing, and machine learning to build decision-support tools for sustainable water management from global to regional scales. Prior to MSU, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT and received honors including the Banting Postdoctoral Award, CSBE Best PhD Thesis Award, FRQNT Postdoctoral Research Award, and an MIT Leadership Fellow distinction.

Research Interests

  • Risk Analysis of Climate Variability and Hydroclimatic Extremes
  • Compound and Cascading Climate Hazards (e.g., drought, flood, dry-hot events, wildfire)
  • Surface Water-Groundwater Interaction and Sustainable Management
  • Remote Sensing of Ecohydrology and the Terrestrial Water Cycle
  • Geospatial AI and Machine Learning for Environmental Forecasting
  • Coupled Human-Water Systems (Socio-Hydrology)
