Rachel Cheng started is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology at Virginia Tech. She earned her BS in Microbiology and Food Science from Oregon State University and completed her doctoral and postdoctoral training at Cornell University in the Department of Food Science. The main research focus of her lab group is understanding the genetic and phenotypic diversity of Salmonella, with the overall goal of developing tailored approaches to reducing the health burden of this pathogen in animals and humans worldwide.
