Background on Alexis Hermiz

Alexis Hermiz, originally from Detroit, MI, graduated from Cass Technical High School and attended Michigan State University (MSU), where she earned a degree in Environmental Studies and Agriscience in 2015. She participated in the precollege programs AIMS and MAP in the College of Ag and Natural Resources, later serving as a counselor for both. At MSU, she was a member of Minorities in Agriculture and Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) active on the executive board for four years and serving as president for two.

In 2014, Alexis joined the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) as a student assistant, focusing on community outreach and policy development. She later coordinated the Summer Youth Employment program before becoming the DNR's diversity, equity, and inclusion officer in 2019. In August 2022, she transitioned to Carhartt as DEI Manager within the new Inclusion, Community, and Sustainability department. Her work supports strategy evolution by managing the design, implementation, execution, and evaluation of corporate DEI programs. Partnering with peers on the ISC team, she works to align and leverage company purpose as a driver that accelerates DEI work.

Alexis has served on the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Alumni Association board and currently represents Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging on the Audubon Great Lakes Advisory Board. She enjoys traveling, nature photography, hiking, and camping, and resides in Seattle with her husband James and their Maltese, Bentley.

She was also the recipient of the Michigan State University (MSU) College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alumni Award in 2024.
